Adios & Dios los bendiga amigos!

It’s been a busy last few days, saying adios to Mexico and all the amigos y amigas that we have made.

On Wednesday, we did our usual day of VBS with our new friends at El Gran Rey church. It was scorching hot, but we powered through. We played baseball, and Kent slammed a few home runs, much to the delight of all. Ethan Hall and Braedon were hilarious in their skit about covering up sin; they actually ate onions and then tried to cover up the pungent smell with breath mints. We laughed until we cried!

After VBS, we took Pastor Marcos and his family out for supper. We went to their favourite taco place: Tacos El Poblano. It was cool to see them make our beef and pork tacos right in front of us. So fresh! Afterwards, we went back to the church for their mid-week service. Gurleen and Liam shared their testimonies, and Gavin preached. It was a warm and lively time!

On Thursday, we wrapped up VBS, as we introduced Bucketball to our Mexican friends. They were quick to pick it up, and we had lots of fun. Kaleb and Kent went head-to-head, and this time Kaleb’s team was victorious. Our craft was a votive candle wrapped with cinnamon sticks, and we also finished off our painted potted mint plants (sounds like a tongue twister. LOL!) Afterwards, we stopped at a churros stand to sample this sweet Mexican delicacy—muy bueno! We finished off the day by packing up our stuff as we got ready to head north.

This morning, most of us slept in and then we cleaned our quad and loaded up the van. After the staff sent us off with prayers and an impromptu song-and-dance (love those Backstreet Boys!). Muchos thank-yous, as some might say. We had a great drive to the border, only waited one hour at the border, and then made our way through the thick California rush-hour traffic to Orange County and our spacious accommodations.

The only excitement we had today was Kent’s car being pulled over by the Mexican city police for cruising through a stop sign in Tecate (at the border). Instead of getting a ticket, the officers let him off with a warning when they found out we were helping out at Agua Viva. Thank you, Lord, for watching out for us, and to all our friends and family back in Winnipeg who are praying hard for us. Buenos Noches!
